We are delighted to announce that Karen Swallow Prior is the keynote speaker for this autumn’s Housemoot conference.
What is Housemoot?
Housemoot is the Rabbit Room’s annual web conference, styled after our in-person faith and arts conference, Huchmoot. With over 15 hours of brand-new lectures, recipes, and artistic offerings created specifically for Housemoot, this fully digital conference will launch the same weekend as Hutchmoot 2024 (October 10-13) and run through the end of November.
But Housemoot is more than just a web conference; it is a do-it-yourself "conference tool kit" that enables you to create a moot experience with your community.
Housemoot Includes:
A wide selection of new audio and video lectures from artists, writers, musicians, poets, and creators of every stripe
Artistic interludes with inspiring works of songwriting, poetry, and visual art
Recipes to help you roll out the welcome mat
Because our Rabbit Room Members are at the heart of funding all our programs and resources, members receive $10 off any ticket option for our Housemoot!
Keynote Lecture—Reading Matters: How to Read Better Words Well with Karen Swallow Prior
Reading reflects a uniquely human capacity and way of seeing and being in the world. It's also just plain fun! But like any other skill, reading is a practice that improves with time and intention. In a world that encourages the opposite of reading well, let's explore some ways we can become better readers and, in becoming better readers, discover more of the pleasures that good books offer.
Karen Swallow Prior is a writer, speaker, and columnist for Religion News Service. Her work has appeared in The New York Times and The Washington Post, among others. Her book On Reading Well is a perennial favorite at the Rabbit Room.
Why Wait Until Housemoot?
Regent College in Vancouver is hosting Karen Swallow Prior for a free lecture on how every Christian is called to pursue the good, the true, and the beautiful in every area of life, no matter how simple and mundane.
The lecture will be live-streamed on June 3 at 7:30 PM Pacific Daylight Time.
You can watch the lecture here.
