Sitting Down Discipline
by Eva Pankratz
The south room of the house idles, falling behind the rest of the surging world in its sunny pocket of the neighborhood, the languid afternoon. When the things said are dozy, passive in their coming and meaning. When silence wakes itself up with its own snores. The furred floor pulls me down, and there is only the warm carpet, the wide window, the donut of the coiled orange cat twitching, rolling with the tossed sun rays as they snail over his sleep. My reasons to leave melt and recede. I never decide to stay, it only happens, the way holy moments do. I never decide to be holy, it only happens, the way named things do.
A proud Minnesota, Eva completed her undergraduate in English from the University of Northwestern–St. Paul. She grew up in Rochester, Minnesota, a city known for Mayo Clinic, the corncob water tower, and Flapdoodles ice cream. Eva found a passion for reading at an early age during her sister's battle with Leukemia, and she feels called to write truthful, beautiful books for children and teens. Writing encourages her to know her Creator better. She loves long walks, her Chacos, her tabby cat Tiger, and the book Till We Have Faces.

I have a south window with a reading chair where I read poetry, devotions, write and meditate. This morning when I got up to refill my cup of tea my kitty took over the chair.
There is so much here. Thank you!
