What a great list to use as an excuse to buy even more books! There are a lot of great choices on this list, several of which I've already spent time with. If I may, I'd like to suggest the poetry of Ted Kooser (for those who think they don’t like poetry because they think it has to rhyme), but also his excellent book, The Poetry Home Repair Manual: Practical Advice for Beginning Poets (for those who want to grow in writing poetry). Thanks for sharing!
Hey, thanks for reading, Swig! And I totally get that Enneagram types aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Christina Rossetti is a great must-read for anyone, and the tale of Sir Gawain is an exciting story!
Space poets and poetry are highly to be praised, and I would recommend a certain Upper Peninsulan space poet I know to any would-be astronaut or intergalactical armchair traveler … but this is a short(ish) list, after all, and space is a very big place! 😄
This reminds me of when I was a kid and my Yooper cousin told me "and the ones from lower Michigan are trolls because they live below the bridge." I don't know if it's accurate for Yoopers in general or just her, but I enjoy that weirdly specific memory.
The mention or description of who or what a YOOPER is, is almost always followed by the faithful addendum, “…and people from lower Michigan are called Trolls because they live below the bridge.” It’s like, “and also with you.”
Oh man, Amelia, I feel so SEEN (and honored to be included adjacent to such fine poets).
Poets of the great Midwest, unite!

Thanks for those recommendations, Jason! I’m not familiar with Ted Kooser, but he’s now on my list!
You're in for a treat. 😊
This is so perfect!! I've been wanting a list of poetry recommendations!
Oh, that’s great, Sierra! I hope this list gives you some new treasures to enjoy.
Reserving some from the library...
That’s a great idea, Vanessa! I didn’t look to see how many of these my local library has. Now I’m curious!
As an enneagram one, I can confirm that Tolkien’s take on the tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a favorite 😍
I’m glad to hear it, Ali!
Great list! How fun!
Thanks, Gypsy!
Love this! Very useful!
Yay! I hope it introduces you to some new-to-you poets — or gives ideas for poetry to share with friends!
I do indeed have curmudgeonly mystic tendencies. 😁
This is a delightful list!
Oh, me too, friend — or at least the curmudgeon part. 😂
Love this. I'd share it but for the Enneagram. 😞

Thank you for including Typewriter Poets! There are so many goodies on this list. But no space poetry?! 😉

Ah yes…I know him! He’s crazy. Also, I’ve never used the term Upper Peninsulan because we call ourselves Yoopers. I’m gonna use it now though!

hahaha amazing.
Just posted a short story on my Substack. Any writers out there please give it a read, love and welcome feedback.
